RaceChrono is a data logging software for all kinds of sports. It runs on Nokia S60 smart phones and uses position data from your GPS receiver to determine lap times and performance.
RaceChrono is developed by a team of Finnish sports enthusiastics who have made their careers in the IT-business. RaceChrono is currently a hobby project for it's authors.
We have successfully used RaceChrono with all kinds of bikes, cars and water jets. After you have downloaded the needed track profile from our library, the safe and waterproof installation of your Mobile phone and GPS receiver is the trickiest task, as RaceChrono team members have found out. Most of the tracks we have in our tracks library are from other RaceChrono users. We hope that someday our library will contain most common tracks from all over the world.
Changes from v0.91 to v0.95:
Expiry date moved to August 31st 2008.
Experimental OBD-II reader support. The OBD-II feature can be used to log data from ECU, like throttle position, RPM, coolant temperature, etc. A Bluetooth OBD-II reader is needed in order to use this feature. Supported readers are OBD-Key Bluetooth (which is bit faster) and Car-Pal Bluetooth (which is slower). NOTICE: This feature is in 3rd edition version only, so no support for older phones!
Option ‘Use OBD-II speed’ added to performance testing session settings. Using OBD-II speed in performance testing makes the results much more reliable than when used with GPS only. No other channels than the speed is logged when this option is enabled, to guarantee highest possible accuracy.
Improved high/low speed view: Route is drawn with a color that depends on longitudinal acceleration. Maximum braking is marked with bright red, maximum accelerating with bright green and zero acceleration with gray color. Maximum accelerating and braking G-forces can be defined in ‘ Options > Settings > Accelerating limit’ and ‘Braking limit’. Also the ‘Hi/Lo threshold’ setting has been moved from general settings to ‘Options > Settings > Hi/Lo threshold’.
Laps can now be marked invalid (or valid) from “Lap times > Options > Mark invalid”. Invalid laps are not calculated to optimal lap, or used as best lap, and they are grayed out in the lap list. Recommended use is to mark cooling and warming laps, plus those that contain invalid data.
Notes can be added to individual laps and to the session. Session note can be edited from “Properties > Session notes”, and lap notes by first switching to “Information” display mode by “Lap times > Options > Display mode > information”, and then opening the lap twice.
New “Information” display mode in lap view. You can switch to it from “Lap times > Options > Display mode > information”. This mode shows lap distance in kilometers or miles, start time and date of the lap and a lap notes.
Average speeds now visible in “Lap times > Options > Display mode > Hi/Lo speeds”.
Trap lines can now be rotated in “Browse traps > Options > Rotate”.
More information can be viewed in the “Previous sessions” list. The list’s display mode can be changed from “Previous sessions > Options > Display type”. The display type can also be toggled with ‘#’ key, or pressing left or right.
Quicker session set-up. The editor in “Start new session” remembers the previous Session type, Driver name, Save NMEA data, and Track name or Performance test name.
Removed “Save NMEA by default” from settings, as the previous value is now remembered.
Driver name can now be selected from a list when starting a new session. Select “enter new name” to use an other name.
Session properties can be now edited easier, directly from the session view. The corresponding menu item is now removed.
Multiple sessions can be marked for deletion in Previous Sessions list.
Exporting sessions to I2M Danas format added.
Multiple session files can now be imported to same RaceChrono session. Useful since PerformanceBox starts a new file every time it looses power.
Small improvements to export functionality. For example session notes and creation times are now exported.
Session file format has changed to accommodate notes. All your old sessions created with earlier RaceChrono versions can be loaded with this version, but not vice versa.
Settings split to three different views: General, GPS and OBD-II settings.
The start-up warning can now be disabled from the settings.
Keys can be locked in session view by “Options > Lock keys”.
Maximum heap size doubled to 20 MB, to allow longer sessions on high-end phones.
FIXED: NMEA parser broken, GGA and RMC sentences can be unsynced! Caused speed and timestamp to be unsynced by one plot sometimes! Sorry about this.
Fixed: Start, finish and split lines are not registered if loss of data while going over it. This fixes invalid optimal lap time and invalid lap times due to loss of satellites fix or loss of Bluetooth connection. This does not fix similar situation when bad data is given by the GPS receiver.
Fixed: The running time was rounded up in Live Timer.
Fixed: Crash on 2nd edition when opening lap graph when only one lap has been driven.
Fixed: Hang on 2nd edition when starting a session while Bluetooth is disabled.
Fixed: Focus in high/low speeds mode does not bounce around anymore when changing lap with 2 and 3 keys.
Fixed: Trap editor had negative bearing degrees for bearings over 180 degrees.
Fixed: Optimal lap was not calculated correctly when first lap had missed traps.
Fixed: Slow writing to memory card of a track profile with many traps.
Fixed: Removed non-working menu options from Performance Testing run view.
Fixed: Tracks are now in alphabetical order.
Fixed: Lap timing session can be now exported with “all laps” scope even if there is no completed laps. This will naturally generate empty data, but in addition also split lines (for .KML only).
Fixed: Hang when traveled route is zoomed without any data.
Fixed: Crash on the old Nokia 6600 when opening lap list or graphs.
Fixed: Crash on 2nd edition in performance graphs after changing X-axis to Distance.
Fixed: Loss of data when PerformanceBox imported data has error in GPS time.
Fixed: Could not import more than one VBox session files.
Fixed: “Automatic orientation” renamed to “Default orientation” in settings.
Fixed from the beta: File read rountine broken! Could not read strings over 255 characters long!
